Setting Up Blocking Schedules

Brainrot lets you create blocking rules in the Blocking tab — either on a schedule or all day. The key is matching your rules to the moments when you're most likely to fall into mindless scrolling.

How to create a blocking rule

  1. Open Brainrot and go to the Blocking tab
  2. Tap to create a new rule
  3. Select the apps you want to block
  4. Choose Scheduled (set a time window) or All Day
  5. Save your rule

Schedule ideas that work

The best schedules target the times when you're most tempted to scroll without thinking. Here are some that work well:

Morning wind-up

Block social media and news apps from when you wake up until you leave for work or school (e.g., 6 AM–9 AM). Starting the day without your phone sets the tone for the rest of it. Many people find that the first 30 minutes after waking is when they lose the most time.

Evening wind-down

Block distracting apps from 9 PM onward. Late-night scrolling is one of the biggest sleep killers — and it's almost always mindless. This is the single most popular schedule among Brainrot users.

Dinner and family time

Set a block for the hours you're eating or spending time with others (e.g., 6 PM–8 PM). Even a short window of phone-free time can make a real difference in how present you feel.

Work or study focus

Block social media during your most productive hours. If you work 9–5, try blocking TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter during that window. You'll be surprised how much focus you get back.

All day

For apps you know you don't need at all — games, doomscrolling apps, whatever your vice is — an all-day block removes the temptation entirely. You can always adjust later if it feels too aggressive.

Tips for making schedules stick

  • Start with one schedule. Don't try to block everything at once. Pick the time of day where you waste the most time and start there
  • Be specific about which apps. Blocking 2–3 apps you actually overuse is more effective than blocking 20 apps you rarely open
  • Adjust as you go. If a schedule feels too restrictive, shorten the window rather than deleting the rule. Some friction is better than none
  • Stack rules. Once your first schedule feels natural, add another one for a different part of your day
