How App Blocking Works

App blocking is one of Brainrot's most powerful features. It uses Apple's official Screen Time framework to restrict access to apps you choose, so you're not relying on willpower alone.

How it works

When you set up a block, Brainrot communicates with Apple's Screen Time API to create a managed restriction on the selected apps. This means the block is enforced at the operating system level — it's not just a reminder or overlay that you can easily dismiss.

Setting up a block

  1. Open Brainrot and go to the Blocking tab
  2. Tap to create a new rule
  3. Select the apps you want to block
  4. Choose Scheduled (set a time window) or All Day
  5. Tap Save

Types of rules

  • Scheduled rules — restrict apps during a specific time window. Great for winding down before bed, staying focused during work hours, or keeping dinner phone-free
  • All-day rules — block apps for the entire day. Best for apps you know you don't need and want to remove the temptation entirely

Can I bypass a block?

By design, blocks are meant to add friction. Depending on your settings, you may be able to request extra time — but the goal is to make you pause and think before reflexively opening a distracting app.
