App Blocking Not Working

If the apps you've blocked in Brainrot are still accessible, work through the steps below. Start with the quick fixes — they resolve the majority of issues.

Quick fixes

  1. Refresh the blocking system. Open Brainrot, tap the ? icon in the top right to open the help menu, then tap Refresh Blocking System. This reloads the connection to Apple's Screen Time framework and fixes most blocking issues instantly.
  2. Force-close and reopen Brainrot. Swipe up from the app switcher to close it completely, then reopen.
  3. Restart your iPhone. A full power-off restart can resolve issues that a simple app restart won't.

If a specific app isn't being blocked

If most blocks work but one particular app slips through, check these:

Make sure the app is in your block list

Open your active block in Brainrot and confirm the specific app is selected. It's easy to miss one when setting up a block with many apps.

If nothing is being blocked at all

If none of your blocks are working, the issue is likely with permissions or Screen Time itself.

Verify Family Controls authorization

Brainrot uses Apple's Family Controls framework to enforce blocks. If authorization was revoked or never granted:

  1. Open Brainrot and check for a prompt to re-authorize
  2. If no prompt appears, try deleting and reinstalling the app, then granting permissions when asked

Make sure Screen Time is enabled

Go to Settings > Screen Time and confirm it's turned on. Without Screen Time, iOS can't enforce app restrictions from third-party apps.

Remove conflicting Screen Time settings

If you've set up restrictions directly through iOS Settings (like App Limits or Downtime), they can conflict with Brainrot's blocks. Try removing those iOS-level restrictions and relying on Brainrot alone to see if the issue resolves.

Check your block schedule

If blocks work sometimes but not others, double-check your schedule. If you set a time-window block (e.g., 9 PM–7 AM), it won't activate outside those hours. Open Brainrot and review the timing on your active blocks.

Update Brainrot and iOS

Make sure you're running the latest version of both Brainrot (check the App Store for updates) and iOS (Settings > General > Software Update). Some blocking bugs are fixed in updates.
